Antakya · Ancient Antioch

Discover Antakya, privately guided.

Ancient Antioch was one of the great cities of the Roman world and a crossroads of faiths and cuisines. We arrange private journeys for travellers drawn to its early Christian heritage, its mosaics and its table.

The Church of St Peter in Antakya

Why Antioch

A city at the heart of early Christianity

Acts records that it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians (Acts 11:26), and that Paul and Barnabas set out from here on their first missionary journey. For centuries the city was home to Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities, a shared heritage that still shapes its neighbourhoods, its traditions and its kitchens.

Antakya today

Antakya is rebuilding after the February 2023 earthquakes, and its people, crafts and cuisine remain at the centre of city life.

Restoration work continues across the historic city. We confirm the current access to every site, and the availability of hotels and restaurants, before each programme, and plan the day around what can be visited.
